Cheese Preservation and Storage Tips
Proper cheese preservation is essential to maintain the flavor and texture of La Bonne Vie’s products. Ensuring your cheese is stored correctly will keep it fresh and delightful for longer periods.
By following these storage tips, you can enjoy La Bonne Vie’s cheeses at their best. Proper care ensures that each bite is as flavorful and delightful as intended. From wrapping and temperature control to preventing mold and freezing methods, these guidelines will help you savor your cheese to the fullest.
General Storage
Store cheese in the warmest part of your fridge (35-45°F) with a slightly humid environment. The vegetable drawer is ideal.
Soft-Ripened Cheeses (Brie, Camembert)
Wrap Brie and Camembert in wax or parchment paper, then loosely in plastic wrap. Bring them to room temperature before serving to enhance their flavors and textures.
Goat Cheeses
Wrap fresh goat cheese in wax paper and place it in a plastic container. Aged goat cheese should be wrapped in cheese paper or wax paper, followed by plastic wrap. Allow them to reach room temperature before serving.
Fresh Cheeses (Crème Fraîche, Cheese Spreads)
Store fresh cheeses in their original containers and seal tightly after opening. Always use clean utensils to avoid contamination.
Preventing Mold
Ensure your hands and utensils are clean before handling cheese to prevent mold. Regularly check your cheeses for spoilage. If mold appears on soft cheeses, discard them. For hard cheeses, cut off the moldy part about an inch around and below the mold.
Freezing Cheese
Freezing cheese can alter its texture, making it crumbly, so it's best used for cooking rather than fresh serving. Wrap the cheese tightly in plastic wrap and place it in a freezer bag. Label with the date and type of cheese, and thaw in the refrigerator before use.
Serving and Leftovers
Only bring out as much cheese as you plan to consume to avoid repeated temperature changes. Re-wrap leftovers in fresh wax paper or cheese paper and return them to the fridge promptly.
By following these storage tips, you can enjoy La Bonne Vie’s cheeses at their best. Proper care ensures that each bite is as flavorful and delightful as intended.
